I currently work for a city government agency. I was offered a job with the State of Ohio, a tentative job offer with a start date contingent on the background check. The background check was done three weeks ago. I sent an initial email asking how long it would take for the background check because of giving a two week notice to my current employer. They said they couldn't really say, but normally about a week, maybe longer because I had my fingerprints done at an off sight location. Last Friday, I received an email that the background check wasn't done yet and they were moving my start date out two weeks. Why is my background check taking so long? Should I be concerned? (Also, I did live in Florida for 5 years. With the hurricanes, could that be delaying the background check?)

relax, there's a lot of foot dragging with background investigations, two weeks is nothing, just let them do it at their own pace, don't bug them.

Why are you saying the background was done three weeks ago? Do you mean that you signed an authorization form three weeks ago? State investigations can take weeks, especially if something happens that pushes them back. Don't expect the state to move fast.
