8 year old girl was swimming in a lazy river type pool when she was suddenly sucked into a pipe inside the pool. The pipe looks to be 8-10 inches in diameter why would they have such a large pipe sucking water with nothing covering it. Some of these hotel pools have to be careful with maintenance isn't always good.

The parents could not find her they called police who at first searched the area thinking she had wondered off. Eventually found her inside this pipe with a camera on a pole.

Didn't show anything just a still picture entire video is mostly talking about the incident. 8 year old kind of young to be off on their own in a pool like that never know. Last thing I would think happen sucked into a pipe the other still picture seems like it once had a cover got broke someone didn't replace it.

I heard about this. Awful. I think they said the pipe was supposed to be pushing water out and not sucking things in.

Horrible story. I think former VP-candidate John Edwards won a big case very similar to this.

It's hard to blame parents for not watching kids even if that's what happened here...no one should be sucked up by a pipe in a pool.

I remember that case code was changed sometime in the early 90s that required the drain to split with the skimmer so it could not get so much suction if the cover was removed older pools didn't have that safety feature.

I have a pool the most common risk is have a drain with a cover on if its is sucking water in someone with long hair gets near it the hair gets tangled in the small holes. Now they have a choice rip their hair out or drown. If it gets enough hair might not even able to do that quick enough. Many pools just got rid of the drain all together because you use a automatic cleaner runs around on the bottom does the same thing. Mine has a valve I leave it shut off 99% of the time unless I'm priming the pump.

Your right I was thinking more about other risks such as sex offenders being bullied by older kids. 8 year olds drown in backyard pools really need to keep them in visual range IMO little young still to be on their own. I only say this because it seemed like this child was out on their own the parents thought she wondered off.

It's so strange because I woke up this morning thinking about that case Edwards won. He got millions awarded to a girl who was damaged for life when she was in a pool with the drain cover removed. Four men couldn't pull her off of it, and she lost most of her intestines. This kind of accident is just horrendous. So sorry for the family of this girl who just died.

I doubt if they show anything "gory." Definitely tragic, though.
