Hello! I have the opportunity for what is essentially my dream job, which would be located in New Haven. We (me, husband, two kids) currently live in the Maryland suburbs of DC. Although there would be some barriers to moving, we could get around them, but the one complete deal-breaker is a lack of high-speed internet, which my husband would need to keep his job.

Does anyone know of opportunities for high-speed internet in the rural areas around NH? Some of the towns that look most appealing include Orange, Woodbridge, Bethany, and Durham (though we're open to others). I'd like to be ~30 minutes from NH, and ideally have around five acres. We wouldn't buy right away, but I want to see if there's even a hope of moving, or if my career dreams will die at the foot of the Internet altar.

Thanks in advance!

Yes, all those areas have high speed Internet available. Connecticut is well developed in that regard. Rural CT is nothing like rural in other parts of the country. It feels rural but you're never more than 15 minutes away from civilization.

Thanks so much! I figured as much, but my husband announced this morning that there's no high speed internet there, which sounds extremely fishy to me. Do you know who the specific providers might be?

And, the kind of rural you describe is exactly what we (or at least I) am going for. We've lived in the DC area for over 10 years and although my husband grew up in rural Western NY, I don't think either of us could deal with truly rural.

what about Cable and phone? did you want those bundled with internet access or do you want internet only?
as far as bundling goes, there's 4 main providers in CT - Cox, Comcast/Xfinity, Att/UVerse, Verizon/FiOS. which one you get depends on the town you end up moving to.

You missed 2 huge ones: Cablevision/Optimum and Charter. FiOS is limited to a very small part of the state.

Well, we only have internet here, not sure if we'd want to add a landline if we move.

Thanks for the info on the providers, will look into them!

I believe most of the towns you're looking at are Comcast. Some may have U-Verse too.

not huge in the places i've been. i've only had Comcast (Danbury, Mtown), Cox (Meriden, Wfield), and UVerse (Mtown) as choices over the last 8-9 years.

Charter has most of northern FFC and northwestern CT and Optimum southwestern CT.

If you have a choice, I recommend going with U-Verse over Comcast. I've had some pretty back experiences with Comcast. Just my 2 cents.
