Excellent news for the Columbus region came out this week. Columbus has regained it's spot as Georgia's 2nd largest city according to the Census. Our neighbor Auburn is now the 14th fastest growing city in the country. Great to hear the progress and growth the CSA is seeing at this time. With time hopefully these two metros will merge!

In a way I think folks in Augusta for the most part are relieved we are number 3. Having that title never really did anything for us and we still have the 2nd largest MSA by far. Augusta stands to learn from the loss but a big congrats to Columbus for the achievement.

The people in Columbus definitely need the title of 'second largest city' compared to Augusta. The main county, urban, and MSA population of Augusta is still higher...

The latest census estimates are for 2010-2012.. The overwhelmingly majority of growth in Columbus is related to the US Army.. It seems kinda ironic how you guys have been saying at least since 2007 Columbus would pass Augusta in term of city population due to Brac..

Now that Brac ended in 2011 the unusual growth for Columbus had nothing to do with Brac..

The Columbus MSA only gained 13,000 between 2000-2010... I think we can see the current growth is definitely related to Brac..

What's your point? Columbus CSA gained 30,000 between 2000-2010,so no not all the current growth is Brac related.

The Columbus MSA, which includes a county in Alabama, reached nearly 294,000 residents in the 2010 Census. However, state population forecasters are expecting the area to add more than twice as many new residents by 2015 as it did during the entire decade of the 2000s. If those growth prognostications materialize, the Columbus MSA will surge 9.3 percent to more than 320,000 residents.

Yeah, its all Brac related. And just looking at numbers between 2015-2025.Columbus is clearly becoming a major spot and city in Georgia.

Happen to agree with you on that. It's very amusing to see these competition threads. I don't understand why it matters so much.
