No because we have Krogers, which aren’t always as nice. The marketplace one here is super nice. But since they own Harris Teeter and rarely mix markets with the two, I doubt we ever will unless Kroger pulls up stakes one day. Literally every market in SC except the Midlands, Myrtle Beach, and CSRA has Harris Teeter. But Charleston, Florence, Rock Hill/Fort Mill, the Upstate all have them. A notable exception to the rule though is Beaufort County, which has both.
This is true. After Kroger acquired HT they converted the NC Kroger stores in Raleigh to Harris Teeter for one single banner in NC. They converted the Harris Teeter's in Nashville to Kroger which already had a heavy presence there and across Tennessee. Wonder why they haven't converted the Kroger stores in Columbia and Myrtle Beach to Harris Teeter so they have one consistent banner across SC? Cola and MB really only have a handful of Kroger stores to convert.

I have heard the Kroger Marketplace is very nice but have not been down there to visit. I'm sure the grocery selection is good but what about the retail dept. store aspect? Is it comparable to Walmart?
Would be nice to see a Meijer Superstore come to the Carolinas, but so far their nearest locations remain in Kentucky.

Not as big a selection, but better quality. Kinda a la Target. In the retail aspect. The food aspect is humongous.
When I lived in Charleston, my preference in grocery store was Harris Teeter (pre Kroger) followed by Publix. Now in the Columbia area it is Publix followed by Lowes Foods. That said, there is a KJ's IGA store close to me so it is very convenient for a fast in and out thus I shop there when only a few things are needed. KJ's has limited but sufficient selections so I can get by even if not exactly what I want.

My teen daughter likes to checkout the clearance clothing. Lots of good deals on cool t-shirts or plaid shirts. Food selection is great. We seem to almost never hit the left side (non-grocery) section. Huge pharmacy setup, we just don't go over there.
Kroger on Killian is our current favorite grocery store.
1) We have many great pizzerias in the Columbia area. Marco's, Dano's, etc
2) We have Aldi's and Lidhl's
3) We don't have White Castle but we have sooooooo many burger places. Sooooooo many, and you can buy White Castle in almost every grocery store
4) LIZARD'S THICKET!!!!
5) I'm down with this. Shoney's, IHOP, Denny's might be an equivalent to this. There are Friendly's in the Grand Strand area (Myrtle Beach)

Friendly's is primarily Mid Atlantic and Northeast areas, but as mentioned 2 locations at Myrtle Beach. Famous for ice cream focused diner. Used to have one in Huntersville near Charlotte but it closed a while back.
White Castle is similar to Krystal, but is mainly northeast and midwest overlapping in Kentucky and Tennessee. Krystal may still have SC locations in North Augusta, and Blacksburg near Gaffney. Closed in the Upstate.
Is there a Harris Teeter in Columbia? They are nice upscale stores with reasonable prices. They have recently returned to the Upstate and have numerous locations in the Charlotte area.
Not since 2001.
