That is a beautiful area -- we enjoyed that drive many, many times while we lived in the Beulah area a few years back.
You missed them. They were down a bit further. They're right here.

I also have a thread for Rye and Colorado City here and for the Mingus Family Ranch here.

Thanks Winglady and Suzco and others for checkin' out the photos. Now get up there in a couple of weeks and watch the Aspens turn!

Default thanks

Thanks for all the pics you post. They do make me homesick though.

Default Thanks so much!!

For making me totally homesick! Seriously, I've been missing our 'heart's home' so bad lately! Your pictures are wonderful and completely reinforce my determination to get done with what needs to get done here in MN and get started building on our land near Westcliffe!
Yes, I know the economy stinks...and it may be a bit longer than we hoped before we make the move...but the land is still ours and it's not going anywhere!
Thanks again!

Just moved to Colorado Springs from Chicago, I am looking for some scenic drives to take that aren't over 100 miles ... I have been to CRIPPLE CREEK, PIKES PEAK NATIONAL FOREST,UP PIKES PEAK, I love the mountains, so I would like to drive to them ,in them and up them. I am finding there are a lot of MOUNTAIN NAMES but not sure where they all are... Thanks for any help.

Have you tried Rampart Range Road? It is really pretty on the way down.

Old Stage Road starts just north of Cheyene Mtn Zoo and ends just east of Victor.

Phantom Canyon Road is also close and a scenic drive. Starts on highway 50, west of Penrose, and ends just south of Victor. On Sundays the bar on mainstreet has pretty good $.50 tacos.

Shelf road is also a worthwhile day trip. RP
