My old buddy has lived in Silverthorne since the '80s. In Summit County, Frisco, Dillon and Silverthorne are a single entity, one destination divided up by the lake and the highway. That's becoming more of a problem, he complains. After a recent weekend snowstorm that closed the surrounding passes, traffic generally gridlocked to the extent that residents couldn't get out or reach the other side of town for three days.

Looking at a state map, you'll find that only two places have major, highly used roads running north and south from I-70, making them critical chokepoints - Denver and Summit County. In Summit, to make matters worse, north and south routes don't directly meet, which causes those travelers to use a short stretch of I-70 to connect them. This is a built in flaw with Summit County, I believe. It's the flip side of convenience.
