Great pics! Done Devil's Head a time or 3. Pretty sure the first pic is looking toward Thunder Butte (highest point in DougCo) and the Hayman burn scar.

My Devil’s Head post reminded me of this. Colorado is littered with airplane wrecks. Some are easy to find, some are not. This one pictured is about a two hour hike NW of Palmer Lake.

You’re right. The interesting thing about the burn scar is it stops right at the doorstep of Lost Creek Wilderness. Another gem of a spot close to the front range. It goes from a Martian landscape to lush green.

I know that lookout tower well, in my younger years I would hike up there once a year until the mid 1980's. I understand Rampart Range Road has improved a lot. That used to be a pretty rough road when I lived on the front range.

Been here in Colorado for 25 years now this month. I think I'm a little surprised by that, since I was a wanderer way back when. I think I figured I'd be in Colorado for three years, move somewhere else, stay there three years, move somewhere else, and so on and so on. The fact that I didn't probably speaks a lot to how special I find Colorado to be.

I do love the climate, by and large, though I do worry about our water situation. On that note, why do I always hear about Douglas County being in a mess with their water supply, as opposed to, say, Arapahoe County or Jefferson County? Just wondering.

One of the things I've always liked about Colorado is that overall, there's a 'you do you' feeling to the place. For example, religion (not trying to start a religious debate, FYI)--I've lived in places where there was a lot of pressure to be a member of a certain church. Here in Colorado, it seems overall nobody bothers themselves with anybody else's religious practices--or lack of them. I also like how overall fitness is a thing, and everybody's cool with how everybody else keeps themselves fit. You're a vegan who does yoga? Everybody's fine that you found something that works for you. You're an omnivore who runs ten miles a day? Again, everybody's fine that you found something that works for you. I think that, more than anything else, is what keeps me here.

Regarding water, I don’t know this for certain, but I believe water sources for Douglas are from the aquifer
and the other counties pull from reservoirs. I had a business in Arapahoe County and we were taxed as a water district to fund reservoirs south of Parker. I owned a home in Douglas County and paid up the yingyang for water.
Now I live on the west slope and water is scarcer, but I pay far less than I did in Douglass County. Go figure.

That's the reason two of the three Douglas County commissioners are colluding with RWR to steal water from the San Luis Valley.

I'll be following this thread with great interest, I have a goal of moving there (from central MN) in the fall of 2025. I'm looking to end up in the Colorado springs area and get back in the towing industry.

Am watching Grand Junction's NBC affiliate KKCO, they are showing the snow around southwestern Colorado. lizard Head Pass has been re-opened, was shut down all day. Same with Red Mountain. And the front range?? How about 60 plus vehicles all piled up together with half of them being tractor trailers, east of aurora on I-70??
