Hi all,

We have been debating a move to Grand Junction as it checks many boxes that we are looking for and seems like a great place. We will be visiting soon.

Like most, I like to look at a variety of demographics when considering a move and one thing I noticed in Grand Junction is there seems to be a lack of dealership options, specifically towards medium / higher end vehicles such as BMW / Mercedes / Audi / Lexus / Acura etc. This is not something I am requiring for myself, simply out of curiosity as a population the size of Grand Junction would have some of these options.

Any feedback why this is the case?

Grand Junction strikes me as more of a Pickup/SUV type place, rather than Lexus/Beemer.

Grand Junction has 65k people. What town that size has a lot of high end car dealerships? Most of Colorado's population lives along the front range, and it's only 4 hours to Denver.

1. Most brands that I have mentioned have an army of SUV options, add Land Rover into the mix.

2. When people are contemplating a move, Grand Junction is often compared to or at least in the running with places such as Santa Fe, Flagstaff, Bozeman, Asheville, etc as far as size and vibes. Most if not all of those towns have a variety of options. I am not talking about a lot of dealerships but not having at least 1 seems odd. Driving 4 hours to have your car serviced is not an option IMO.

I am just trying to get a perspective from people that actually live there. I am certainly not wondering why the town is not diluted with Benz and Beemers, just simply the price point of housing, economy, proximity to wealth etc would all seem to support families having demand for some options outside of Ford / Chevy / Honda / Subaru etc.

Population-wise there are similarities, but Grand Junction on the whole is nowhere near as affluent as those places. Its setting is an outlier, too. All the cities you listed have a mountain vibe. Grand Junction is very much a red rock canyon/desert vibe a la St. George or Moab, UT.

Look at the City-Data demographics of Grand Junction. It's on the western slope of Colorado, and is very different from the demographics of the cities that you listed.

Yes, the brands that you mentioned have SUV options, but you also have to consider that people like their Fords, Chevys, etc. They're looking for vehicles that can be well-used in all sorts of off-road conditions.

Glenwood Springs, an hour ish away, has Audi and Land Rover.
But GJ is really an SUV and pick up town. The folks who live here are adventurous and tow lots of toys. You’ll also likely to see more Sprinter and Revel type conversions. People do stuff here and there are lots and lots of off road trails to explore.

Ford Bronco, 4runner, Pathfinder, Highlander, Palisade type of CUVs, SUVs and trucks are more popular in that area since there's tons of rugged terrain and off roading. However, it doesn't hurt to own a luxury vehicle if one works in the downtown area.

I see lots of BMWs, Teslas, Porsches, Maseratis, a McLaren or two in GJ. I have no idea where they service them. They seem out of place for our rugged environment, but people have exotic cars here. There is money in the Grand Valley from all the folks retiring here who bring it with them and the guys growing pot, LOL. I know one who has a Lamborghini.

I have a Jeep Rubicon and my wife has a Bronco Sport. We fit right in.

What doesn’t show up in the city stats are people who have two homes. One in snow country and one down here in the high desert. We know lots of folks who split time between here and Breck, Winter Park, Vail etc. They may get their cars serviced closer to their other home.
