...instead of being proportional to the amount of taxes paid?

Seems like another socialist, backdoor income redistribution scheme like Obamacare.

Politicians do not use math during an election cycle.

You must be an alien -- maybe planet Uranus? -- if you think Tabor is "socialist" or has anything to with Obamacare.

This has nothing to do with election cycles, but nice try at fake news.

The timing of the payments actually does. Normally those refunds would have been paid out in February or March of 2023 - after the election, but they were moved up to August/September to essentially pander for votes. There are a lot of conservative politicos who aren't happy about it - but it's fake outrage as usual. They would've done the same. damn. thing.

Hell, even the local news channels in Colorado Springs reported it "may" be tied to the election cycle (i.e., Governor Polis recently announcing he was running for re-election), so nice try at your "fake 'fake news'".

There's always a lot of politics involved but as a TABOR hater I've no doubt there were good uses for that money which was best kept in the state treasury and put to good use in Colorado.

I too question the flat amount of $400.00. Not sure if they were able to do anything besides a flat amount but I'd prefer they go by tax filings of the citizens and pro-rate a rebate based on adjusted gross income, or some other measure, that aligns more with how much any given citizen paid in to the state income tax.

You appear to have a reading comprehension problem. You must be dyslexic.

Tabor refunds are not necessarily limited to income tax - they also come into play tied to sales tax collected, etc., so the argument can be made that that using only income tax paid as the basis for determining the amount of refund doesn't necessarily result in a "fair" outcome either.

The refund is limited to taxpayers - defined as people who have filed colorado state tax returns, FWIW.

Even in this poor economy with inflation, I don’t need $400 of my money back. Too bad they couldn’t devise a way to let people waive their $400, but, specify how they want it to be spent. If I could say “Take this $400 and put it toward fixing roads” (but it can’t be used for any other wasteful state government programs, and roads means roads, not the broad definition of ‘infrastructure’ that some politicians tend to use), I’d consider it.

But I know the OP is trolling here, so I’m not sure why I felt like responding.
