Or 285 to 50 if going from Denver. If flying from out of state to a major airport, Phoenix and Salt Lake are all about same distance to Telluride as Denver.

There are direct flights into Montrose to/from Dallas, Denver, Houston, Chicago just to name a few.

HWY 50 from Gunnison to Montrose may or may not always be open due to construction.

If one were to fly into Telluride, do they run shuttles to and from airport? I like how anymore can ride the gondola to get to or from Mountain Village to downtown for free all day/evening.

Yep, plenty of options.

Regarding Hwy 50 closure between Gunnison and Montrose,

https://www.us50info.com/
US 50 IS OPEN TO TWO-WAY TRAFFIC UNTIL AUGUST 31, 2021

Looks like it goes back to the weekday closure in Sept.

That stinks. Thanks for the heads up.

Actually after checking the site - there is this Note:

LABOR DAY WEEKEND SCHEDULE

The project area will be open to two-way traffic beginning Friday 9/3 at noon through Tuesday 9/7 at 8:30 AM

I was just in this area over the weekend and while there was a little bit of haze, it was not horribly smoky.

I was in and around:
Telluride
Ouray
Silverton
Durango (kind of unplanned, but had to replace the battery in my vehicle, and it was the nearest option)
Lake City

I camped at 11,000ft and it was raining on Thursday evening, which changed over to snow during the night, at least up in the mountains at my campsite.

Obviously Labor Day weekend is still ~2 weeks away, so conditions may change by then.
