Going to be travelling that way in a couple of weeks. I see from their web site that there's some very limited openings (12:30 to 1:30 PM, for example). How bad does traffic get and how bad is it on the local detour (Rt 92)?

Fortunately, I'll only deal with this one way, as my return trip will be during their Jul 4 full opening window.

Thanks.

Keep checking the CDot web site. HWY 92 isn't all that bad.

Regularly scheduled daytime roadway closures in effect, including nighttime closures on the US 50 project between MP 123 – MP 127 through Little Blue Creek Canyon. Motorists should prepare for detours and traffic delays on weekdays. Click here to see the full schedule of road closures. The road is open to two-way traffic from Friday at 5:30 PM through Monday at 8:30 AM.

We did the Hwy 50 drive several times in May. First time heading West, we missed the noon window so took the 92 detour at the Blue Mesa Res Dam. The detour goes along the North side of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison for a while (dramatic!), then though Crawford, Delta, Montrose. The detour definitely added some time but I thought it was a great drive to do once.. Second time we took 50 also in May, we made sure we did it on a weekend and it was not bad at all.

I hope they get highway 50 back up to snuff because mudslides are rearing their ugly head--again! Glenwood Canyon has been on again off again for the last few days. Mesa County saw a system that brought much needed moisture the last few days, not so much in the Fruita/Loma area but Palisade got a lot, as did DeBeque Canyon and points east.

KKCO-11 reports the road closed again last night. As much as I hate going to Denver I have to be there tomorrow for a pre-op physical at Porters Hospital on Wednesday for a re-do on knee replacement. And the only other way is to go Colorado 13 out of Rifle, then Meeker, then Craig. Then take U.S. 40 over Berthoud Pass or veer off 40 at Kremmling and backtrack south to Silverthorne. And traffic won't be a picnic as 40 is a 2 laner. The truckers have got a heads-up on this problem, the Port Of Entry at Loma has put out the word on this. So if the truckers are on 15 out of Salt Lake, they get on 80 and head to Cheyenne. And if they are coming up north out of Las Vegas they do the same thing--up to Salt Lake and take I-80.
