My monthly housing costs ( Taxes, Insurance, utilities ) are averaging about $600 a month. Living in northern PA (Wellsboro ) is certainly less costly than living almost anywhere in Colorado these days.
That's good to hear Cos.

I there again hope you got an interest rate when the getting was good.

Ca$h ... with no mortgage.

Being in debt over housing is not an experience I've ever tolerated very well.

I'd rather live simply and be debt free.

Makes no sense to give so much money to bankers.

Ditto. I cringe when people say they can write off mortgage interest on their taxes; as if it's a 1 to 1 ratio; it isn't. If one is in a 15% tax bracket and spends $10,000 on mortgage interest, they only get 15% of that money back in the way of a reduced tax bill; i.e., they spend $10,000 and save $1,500 on their tax bill. Not a good deal for homeowners; a great deal for mortgage bankers. The banker has the entire $10,000 while the homeowner is out $8,500 and the U.S. Treasury is reduced by $1,500.
