Just a note: I don't know where you are coming from, but be sure to pack some cold weather clothing and dress in layers if you do any hiking. We have had snow as early as mid-September, although that is rare. (Some years we don't have snow until late November or even later, however.)

You certainly will have a BEAUTIFUL trip ahead of you, anyway!

if you need a day of relaxing / unique stay, check into 'mid-week' at:
Waunita Hot Springs Ranch
8007 County Rd. 887
Gunnison, CO 81230

We have been the only guests in this lodge during midweek about aspen time. (Weekends often host retreats).
A lone gal traveler from NZ stopped for a 'day-pass' at the pool. She was the only other guest that day.

It was great, as are the staff.

For 'other' leaf peepers... the Chama Steam train can be pretty exceptional during fall colors. (CO and NM route)

The rolling stock and buildings / infrastructure of this RR is very interesting for the true rail / steam enthusiast,

Can pick-up a day at Ballon Fiesta while in the neighborhood. for a quick trip... arrive for night glow, stay at or near Casino, then watch the Grand Finale lift off. (final day.)

Almost no color change today around Elevenmile res in Park County. Seems a little late this year compared to last year which was early. Dry falls seem to give the best color and that has mostly happened. I think the last weekend in Sept might be the peak in this area but you never know?? Picture is from today

We drove down from Wyoming thru Grand Lake and RMNP last Thursday and the only color we saw was on some of the shrubs.

Thanks for posting this. I'm glad it mentions both Guanella Pass & Squaw Pass, those are my 2 favorite leaf-peeping drives close to Denver. Squaw Pass in particular is close & easy to get to. It ends in Idaho Springs so you can stop there for a bite to eat - Beau Jo's Pizza is a yummy choice . Georgetown also has some good places to eat, & some wonderful museums as well. The Hotel de Paris & the Hamill House are delightful, though even more so at Christmas time when they're decked out in Christmas decorations.

I saw no fall color in Crested Butte the weekend of the 7th and 8th.
I saw no fall color in Winter Park on September 13th and 14th, but did see the some color starting to show near Grand Lake in the 14th. The weekend of the 21st and 22nd should be good in Grand Lake. The underbrush was turning in Rocky Mtn National Park on te 14th, but no aspen turning yet.

Fall color is running around 10 days later than usual around the Nederland area and Peak to Peak byway. Drove south to Hwy 6 on Monday and there were very few trees with any color. Drove north several miles past Ward yesterday, not much color that way either. If we get some cold nights that should kick the aspen into gear.
