I grew up in Littleton and helped my mom can peaches every year. She used to ask the stock boys for the flats of damaged fruit that was slated for the dumpster and make an offer to the manager. Usually at King Soopers. This was back in the 80's not sure if you can still do that. But she'd pick them up for pennies. Several flats at a time. Only CO grown peaches.

I've been in CA since 1997. Soon to be moving though. BUT, FOR THE RECORD Colorado peaches are the absolute best hands down no competition. I have tried to eat CA peaches for 20 years always getting burned, they look great, they smell great and when I take a bite they suck...

It's the weather, the altitude, the soil and the make or break frost situation that determines the years crop. But there are none better! (I have not tried peaches from Georgia but I imagine they are similar to CA)

Same with the melons...

If so, where and when?

Yes. We’ve bought them at fruits stands and had some in dishes at the Pullman in Glenwood Springs. They have ranged from sweet and juicy to mildly sweet and tart.
Keep in mind any peaches now are early harvest. They will only get better into August and early September.

Olathe sweet corn is also out. It is also early harvest. Small in size and not at its best.

I got some at a fruit stand by the gas station on 119 a few miles south of Black Hawk last week. Not as good as past years (and pricey), but maybe that's because the season is just starting. Will probably buy another batch next week.

FWIW, Georgia peaches are 59 per pound in Virginia, at Food Lion this week. I have heard the Western Slope, CO were excellent, though.

I'm forced to admit that FL in VA (finally) had some good peaches last week....but IMO, nothing compares to the peaches from the Western Slope... We enjoyed them while in Golden in 2010, and have never had a peach to compare since.

Today Costco in VA was selling Prima white peaches..4 pounds for 9.99...no thanks..i love those white nectarines, though. The Prima were stamped Fresno...i like my fruit a bit less ripe than most..some don't like them until they are borderline mushy.
