Recently relocated to Colorado found a month to month deal a guy living with his son renting a room, I made him sign a month to month rental agreement and paid him the first month rent and a deposit.

The owners showed up today and were not aware I was living there, apparently he never told them. They were extremely surprise and so was I that he didnt tell them as this guy assured me the owners knew I was going to move. The landlord also said that this guy moved five days ago but he only paid a couple hundreds dollars promising he will pay later as he didnt have all the money.

After I told the landlords that I was surprised about all this situation they said I seem to be a responsible person and that they would like me to stay.

However, I told them that the whole situation seem a little too much for me and that I dont trust this guy anymore to live with him and that my desire is to leave today, so I had to move all my stuff right at this moment the landlords helped me carrying stuff to my car. Its was a nightmare. Right after I asked the guy for my deposit and one month rent and he got a bit condescending or should i say trying to intimidate me, I got really bad aggressive vibes from him and got super scared to be honest .... He had this jerk attitude and told me he doesnt have the money, and that its my decision to leave not his, I said but you also didnt tell the landlords you were going to bring a roommate and you sign a month to month lease with me, you didnt do the right thing I said. Well he didnt pay me, instead he kept this intimidating attitude trying to inspire fear

I just got texts from him saying that I should of returned the house keys and that since i didnt he will use all my money to change all the locks of the house because a security issue since he has a two year old living there and I will not get any money because by law I signed a month to month lease agreement and I broke it leaving the house. Im confuse first he said he didnt have my money now I got a text saying he will use my money for that

I have never dealt with a situation like this before, instead of getting an apology from him for all the trouble he has caused to the landlords and myself he is attacking me.

Just now the owner of the house called asking me for the keys too, so I am confuse about all this and dont know what to do. If I should return the keys to the landlord after all this? I am so overwhelmed.

Please advise, what should I do

Give the keys back to the actual owner of the house not some dude who rented you a room without permission.

Toss them in the nearest trash can and don't think about this anymore.

Homey don't play that game.

Take the high road and give the owners their keys back.

Then find new keys and use them to key the living ca-ca out of Condescending Man's car.

Paint stripper also works well.

Play nice...or pay the price. He asked for it.

Meet with the owner give them a copy of your lease and the keys. You can sue roommate in small claims court.

Or you can bargain with the roommate. Your money for the keys.

Definitely a lesson to only sign a lease with the property owner or manager.

Then why was the thread title, "Please advise not getting my money back"?
