You are absolutely right about EVERYONE going into these fields. You don't have to be particularly smart to be in either profession. They used to be your run of the mill jobs back in the day. Now they are the grand poobah of careers. What? Are we all going to be drawing blood and crunching numbers? *Yawn*

My other half is a Controller-has been for years-studying for the CPA..now all of a sudden it's the hot career-

My cousin and two people I know just graduated from nursing school-can't find a job...no one will hire a nurse with no experience-why? Because they have the pick of 100 people...

My undergrad degree has been pretty useful in finding me work and paying for my beer and pizza.

My grad degree, on the other hand ... has yet to pay for the postage it cost to mail it to me.

Well people will always be sick, in good times and bad. And people always count money when times are good, and more so when times are bad.

They are good careers, but once again you have to look into availibility and such.

I took my career, because I enjoyed it, and its required by federal law for me to have it.

Just like any other profession these days. The most talented and well educated will succeed.

From my observation, they will go into further debt for grad school thinking that have an advanced degree will give them a more competitive edge. In the field of nursing, the new grads with BSNs and inside connections are the ones that will float while the majority of th e rest have to fight for scraps.

Maybe where you are, my wife is an RN working @ two hospitals, both of which are understaffed because they can not find qualified nurses.
