Leaving after 17 years. Definitely a historical run of success.

Nick Saban shocker: Legendary Alabama coach is retiring

The 72-year-old coach won six national titles as Alabama’s head coach from 2007 to 2023, and another one at LSU, where he coached from 2000-2004.

He sent 116 players to the NFL as head coach of the Crimson Tide.

...
Saban’s Alabama team is coming off a College Football Playoff semifinal loss to Michigan earlier this month. He finishes his career with a record of 292-71-1 as a head coach in college, and a record of 201-29 at Alabama.

Dabo's job for the taking, if he wants it, going back to his alma mater!

I feel bad for who comes after him. You just can't live up to what he's done.

Not gonna happen. Not only is there an astronomical buyout in his contract that's even HIGHER if he goes to Alabama.. See the above.

Many people will NOT want the job for that reason.

Haha. A&M is paying Jimbo $75 mil not to coach. Dabo's buyout if he goes to Bama is $9 mil. Chump change.

In a year when Clemson "fans" decided to bash the coach, might have been bad timing.

https://www.si.com/college/clemson/f...buyout-clauses

If Swinney leaves Clemson for Alabama after the 2022 season, he would owe Clemson $9 million. In 2023 and 2024, it drops to $7.5 million, $6 million in 2025, $4.5 million in 2026 and 2027, $3 million in 2028 and 2029 and $1.5 million in 2030.

At least they'll get a nice 7 figure check for 3-4 years, before they get fired for not winning a national title every other year.

Saban is smart, he left before the CFP expanded and the NIL deals started to level the playing field. Now he can lay on the beach or get an 8 figure check working for ESPN.

No farewell tour where every team would try to beat him, very smart man.

I can see Saban replacing Lee Corso on ESPN College Gameday, since Lee is 88-years-old now and 16 years older than Nick.

Is it fathomable he's looking at an NFL vacancy?

Bama was the evil empire so long that most people are surprised Darth Vader(Saban) decided to lay down his light saber. Great career! Not quite Bear Bryant but who remembers him? Enjoy the sunset. He deserves it.
