I got this from a Grandparent who had it for who knows long. I know she had it in the 1950's, but I'd assume she'd had it for decades before, maybe even inherited it. So I'd think 1800's. It's fairly Large & heavy--I'd say maybe 8-10 lbs. & 10" tall. It has a # on the back--1431.

Any info would be greatly appreciated. I'm also wondering if it might be worth anything? TIA!

Early to mid century painted chalkware. Fairly common theme the girl reading books. I've seen a few like this in different sizes and colors over the years. I have a few early 20th century chalkware items myself that have the same type of look. Looks like a mass produced item of decorator art, you could probably find a few on ebay.

Doesn't look like its from before 1900.

Got it, thanks! Funny, I'd looked on ebay before, but had searched for "child reading books" instead of "girl reading books". I found a few on ebay this time.

It looks like a good copy of a Heubach bisque bust - late 19th and early 20th century major German maker of dolls, figurines and other decorative items. Their character dolls and figurines have a very distinctive look, which this bust shares. Many Heubach figurines depict Dutch children, with winged hats like this little girl is wearing.
