Maybe we should learn from the Dutch about wind mills:
"Faced with the need to cut its budget deficit, the Dutch government says offshore wind power is too expensive and that it cannot afford to subsidise the entire cost of 18 cents per kilowatt hour - some 4.5 billion euros last year"Hot air blows over Dutch windmills (http://www.vancouversun.com/news/blows+over+Dutch+windmills/5737716/story.html - broken link)

I have friends in other parts of the US where there are some wind farms. They say that when they get within 5 miles of the place they start to feel the effects of the wind farm within their bodies. They talk about the pressure it puts on their bodies. Also that birds stay away from these areas. I hope the people around these proposed wind farms are prepared for the downside of being near a wind farm.
