OK so I'll play. Why do YOU think there is violence down town? You've given this non answer twice so I'd like an actual answer to this question now please.

Exactly, you would like an answer because you don't know, but you flail and blame ignorantly.

You want to simplify complex issues that go beyond this city to fit your political agenda.

It's not simple. Accept and if you are concerned, focus on solutions, not bumper stickers.

I think all downtowns are going to suffer because of remote work. There are simply a lot less people whose livelihood depends on having a thriving urban center. Many people of different ages and demographics just decide they have had enough of urban problems and bail to live someplace else, recognizing that the daily commute to the city is no longer necessary.

My wife and most of my neighbors work from home at least 3 days a week. 5 years ago, most of them would have been either downtown or in the UC/hospital/uptown area every day. A large fraction of the downtown residential population is transplants who don't have as much at stake in the fortunes of their neighborhood because they plan on living somewhere else in the next few years.

No, that was at Times Square in NYC: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/02/09/n...oting-nyc.html.
