The dealership released a statement to FOX19 about the petition.

“The historical significance of the sign is solely a trademark of Pontiac, the vehicle,” the statement said. “Over the years, it has become a landmark, a sign that brings color and happiness to the valley. Feel free to stop in anytime, not just to shop for a vehicle but to share stories of this sign. it’s truly a piece of AmeriCARna.”
For the record, the sign is Chief Pontiac not the BS that the group said.

It is owned by my BiL. Every email and letter they received is POSITIVE

Many of the emails came from American Indians

Wasn't the dealership originally called Mohawk Motor Company?

I have mixed feelings. It is a true Cincinnati landmark/piece of nostalgia that I grew up with and remember fondly. I just returned to Cincinnati after 40 years and was not even aware it was still standing. On the other hand, I can understand why there would be people who find the signage offensive, and think it should be removed. I guess in the end, one could ask if somebody were creating a sign to help sell cars today, would they use the same image? I think the answer is probably not.

“Those who forget history are condemned to repeat it” is attributed to the American philosopher George Santayana and it can be accurately quoted as “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it”

We can't continue to tear down statues, change names and vilify the past. Enough is enough.

Guess it's probably a good thing that the Schuler's closed down the Wigwam restaurant back in the day. Some clowns would protest it if it was still operating.

From the article, it seems a group of non-Natives is offended on behalf of Native Americans. There seems to be a lot of that going around lately.

And the owner's son showed me emails from Native Americans who are against the non-natives protesting.

They want the sign to remain in all of it's glory!
