Hello Folks

some of the online travel maps tell me Dallas I-30 to Little Rock then I-40 and I-71 rest of the way is the best route, but I see some construction on that route.

I prefer interstates and have no issue using Toll Roads.

Any recent road reports for those roads?

Any suggestions for a better route? I don't mind driving 30 minutes longer if I can avoid construction and idiot drivers.

Trip will be in January 2021, so maybe some snow/ice to be aware of.

Thank you

The easiest route is likely I-30 in AR to I-40 from Little Rock to Nashville, then onto I-65 through Nashville and Kentucky and finally I-71 from Louisville to Cincy.

An alternative route is to take I-30 through Arkansas onto I-55 from West Memphis, AR up through Missouri boot heel and further into Southern Illinois, then pick up I-64 to Louisville and finally I-71 to Cincy....this route will be much more rural and flat. Not much to see it places to stop and it is longer.

The quicker route through Tennessee is quicker but Nashville could have heavy traffic. Memphis is easy to drive through as is Louisville.

I agree that this would be the best route, especially during the winter months. The thing to remember is that the Mid-south region does not have the snow removal/ ice removal equipment that you will find in the Midwest. If you encounter snow or ice, you may have to shut down for the day.

We do the Tucson-Cincinnati drive quite often. Resist the temptation to get off the freeways for state highways. Road conditions on some of the US highways. can be very tough, especially in Arkansas as I found out one March on US 67 in Lawrence and Randolph Counties.
