I'm sorry that this is somewhat redundant with another post, but I'm interested to know what the unsafe areas are in Covington. I am considering an apartment on Greenup St. near Byrd St. (see link below) Is that a bad area?

Here's a link to the map:

Greenup St. at byrd st., Covington, ky - Google Maps

Is it an undesirable area for any reason? Flooding?

I need to move from Connecticut in less than a month, and I've never even been to Covington.

Thank you for all responses.

well even though you have your answer, may I suggest just for the benefit of others, Covington has come a lot way in recent years and there are many more nice areas. This area will not be bad, though I will say the close you stay to the river, and mainstrasse etc. the nicer it generally is.

The water is high recently (cov is ungaurded, unlike areas east of the licking) but no serious damage yet.... You might get renters insurance to be safe. You should be OK up where you are though.

Historically, the areas from about 10th St to 15th St. East of Greenup, have a pretty bad reputation. Also 12th to 15th along Banklick.

Actually, Covington is not entirely "unprotected". There is a flood wall along the Licking and the lower elevations next to the Ohio.

The Mad Hatter is between 6th and 7th, not at the corner of Scott and 4th. Getting there from I-75: Exit at 5th street and head east until you get to Scott. Take a right at Scott and Mad Hatter will be down on the left. It's next to Lee's Famous Recipe Chicken - entrance has glass block around it. When you need to leave, take Greenup back north to 4th, hang a left and that will take you back to I-75.

If you're going there for a show, get there early so you can find a close spot to park on Scott (there's also a garage across the street, which you can enter from Pike St. or 7th...but try to find a spot in the adjacent lots or side streets first) and you can easily walk safely to and from the club. You'll be fine.
