Banks= Bickering As Northern Kentucky Succeeds. Heard it from a caller to WLW's Mike McConnell show. Hate to say that it's a rather appropriate acronym...

That's amazing ... I guess 700WLW isn't aware that NOTL struggles and continues to struggle to keep restaurants or bars in place, and why retail cycles through so fast, there's no way to keep up with what's even in the "mall".

I went to NOTL on Friday night and there were nothing but teeny boppers running around.

I've seen no sign of a struggling retail center, the place is full of people everytime I go. Everytime I've been to the Levee since it has been open, there has been a pretty diverse mix of people: teeny boppers, couples with young families, bar hoppers, older couples going to dinner and a movie... It is usually tough to find a parking space on weekends.

Hey, I'm sorry, but y'all are getting really off topic. Evidently there is a clear OH-KY divide, and I need to be careful with which side I choose to associate myself. Does anyone have some constructive feedback on apartment complexes, activities, and hotspots?

Sorry for veering off topic. This is my last post concerning this.

I'm not a shopper, I usually go there for dinner, drinks or a movie. But Dewey's, Brio, Claddagh, Cold Stone, Pacific Moon, Game Works, Bar Louie, the comedy club... have all been there a long time. I don't know for sure if they were originals. The restaurants and bars seem to be pretty consistent, I'm not sure about the retail shops.

Name all the bars that were booming on Main Street downtown 10 years ago and name the ones that are there now???

Higher end retail centers have turn over. Big deal. The good ones usually stay. I'm not bashing Cinci, in fact I like Cinci. I'm not saying Newport would be "better" for the OP. I'm saying it is a viable option to consider. You obviously have an agenda to dump on NKY.

There isn't a clear divide and you don't need to be careful. You just need to like where you live, and to hell with anyone in Ohio who doesn't like Kentucky, and vice versa.

It has been quite busy when I have visited the Levee as well. Just think if you get the casino over there!! I consider your side to be a compliment to the Cincinnati, Ohio Side. Sorry, but we tend to indulge into much long term planning over here in Cincinnati, which invites nothing being done for to long.

Or better yet, name the original retail stores and then what's there now.

Let's not kid ourselves, during the day the place is a ghost town. It's supposed to be a mall, KTC is packed throughout the day. It can happen. If you walk around the bottom and upper levels, you'll notice these huge panels with pictures of happy people and NOTL signs. Those aren't for decoration ... those are empty store fronts. There are only two things keeping NOTL from shutting down, one; AMC and two; Barnes & Noble.

As far as dining, we usually lean towards local places (non-chains) something with originality. One, it just taste better and two, it's better for the local economy. NOTL's anchor restaurants are national chains, not the best image for food connoisseurs visiting from out of town or new transplants.

By the way, no I am not on some agenda. Like I said up-thread I used to live in Newport, this is why I know it's dead up until about 7 or 8. I lived within walking distance so I was there "enough" to know better.

I don't want to sound like a pessimist, but I give the place 7 or 8 years, but I do honestly hope they come up with some kind of strategy to keep retail there. I think that if they somehow re-designed the building to be more interactive to the street level then it would do better. The Levee just can't survive on the Newport residents alone, a lot of the residents live below the national avg. income level.

In the long haul Cincy_ Newcomer, I think Ohio will be your better option just because there is more to offer over here. If you job is based in Kentucky, I say go for Kentucky, and if it is based in Ohio, go for Ohio. North Cincinnati has a lot of really nice suburbs to offer. Downtown Cincinnati has a lot of entertainment too. Cincinnati will have a very different riverfront in 5 years. I think Covington and Newport have all their entertainment on the river, but nothing behind that. Cincinnati has much more behind its skyline.
