Corporations are people. So what if people were corporations?: 'If companies are claiming the rights and privileges of people, maybe people should start claiming the rights and privileges of corporations....On federal tax returns, individuals can deduct either the sales taxes they paid or their state income taxes, not both; for companies, these deductions are all-you-can-eat. If people were treated like companies, we could also start deducting the first dollar we spend on health care, rather than just the medical spending that exceeds 10 percent of our adjusted gross incomes.' Corporations are people. So what if people were corporations? - The Washington Post

Actually I have held the opposite view for some time now. If corporations are granted the same rights as individuals they should be held to the same standards. Individuals are not permitted to subsugate their responsibilities for minor children. Neither should corporations. If the employees of corporations are held to be responsible for their child-bearing progeny, so should the corporation which begat them. What a novel idea, a corporation is responsible for the well-being of the offspring of their employees.

Thank you for thinking! That's why I posted the news story: reminds me of Portia's speech (Merchant of Venice): does a corporation bleed? does it have human feelings? does it vote? If it causes harm to 'fellow' human persons....does it go to jail...or just pay a small fine?
