Wow! The first picture is particularly striking. Those buildings - the first is the old elementary and the second the old high school, right?

I don't mind the new school, but it is a shame they couldn't incorporate the beautiful and now forever-lost piece of PR history that you posted.

The first picture is the 1st elementary school that was demolished which was replaced by the building in the second picture. The building in the second picture was also a K to 6th elementary school. The school in the second picture was made of red brick with with white columns which made it look similar in appearance to the still standing Presbyterian church across the street. I'm think the church and school were both constructed in the same time period using the same building materials and most likely designed and built by the same people.

I stand corrected! Thanks for the info. Both were exquisite buildings.

I think the 1909 building was built as a high school. Go to the 10:25 mark in the following video; they display a flier from the dedication which calls it a high school. It probably changed to a K-8 when Withrow opened.

I think the older building remained until the 1931 building was build. There are class pictures from the 1920s taken outside of it.

As far as the Presbyterian church, the current chapel was built after 1958. I watched the old one come down from Miss DeLoughry's 3rd grade classroom. As I recall the old chapel predated the 1909 school by at least 20 years.
