Hello. I am an admin at a TX university and make travel arrangements on behalf of faculty traveling. Does anyone know if the name on the Illini Shuttle (a/k/a Suburban Express) ticket is checked against passenger identification? Or can you just give them the ticket and board the bus? This company issued the ticket in the name of the credit card holder (corporate credit I use for university travel), instead of the passenger. There was no indication that the credit card holder's name needed to match the passenger's name. They appear to have a EXCESSIVELY STRICT policy of NO REFUND or EXCHANGES once the ticket has been purchased. I have completed a "Refund Request" form but the form states "Typical turnaround time is 30 days from when we receive request." The form must be mailed (no fax or email). My traveler leaves in a week and we don't know what to do. How frustrating that a service company has such bad customer service. Any help you can provide would be appreciated. I will never recommend this shuttle service to anyone.

A faculty member? Can get them a TRAIN TICKET? The "Illini Express" is barely acceptable transportation for hapless undergrads that have no one to drive 'em to Chambana...

Megabus also serves Chicago-Champaign and they generally do NOT check names carefully.

Mega bus? For a college professor? Gimme a break, the clientele for Mega Bus thinks a GED is evidence of higher learning.

Take Amtrak!

I thought you were anti-rail. In any case, I agree with you here. I'd upgrade to Business Class if you're not on a strict budget. The seats are even more comfortable & spacious. I'd argue that it's an enjoyable & relaxing ride in business class generally. Much nicer than an airplane or bus.

...if you don't have a car to drive to Chambana from Chicago your best option is Amtrak, even with a trip on the CTA from the airport it is still not a bad way to go so long as your flight arrives early enough before the Amtrak departs but not so long that you don't have a ridiculous wait.

[High speed rail that competes with inter-regional jet travel is a waste of time and money, but that is whole other thread...]

Megabus gets you there ON TIME which means about THREE hours ahead ahead of AMTRAK.

Suburban Express isn't a service that you want to use. I would Google them and check out recent events.

Forget Amtrak, assuming the person is flying to Chicago to begin with, I don't see why they wouldn't just transfer on through to Champaign's airport.
