we are going this weekend...first time driving there ourselves. google maps shows it's almost 4 hours from us in south charlotte, but i am wondering if there is a quicker route that someone may share. we are going to stay at the Dunes Inn Resort which had a ton of great online reviews. we are only staying for a night as well and they didn't have a minimum of nights to stay like some other places we looked into.

You are getting right amount of time it is about a four trip no matter if you take country roads or the interstate.

Traffic is very heavy in Conway so expect delays there.

I would recommend taking the country road route due to it a little more scenic you pass the cotton farms, peach stands and peanut stands on the way
However the country route will take you in some cute small towns but these small towns have speed traps.
Speed limit will be 55 then around a curve drops to 35 so watch for those.

Yes, make sure you slow down when you get to McBee, SC. It drops from 55-35 pretty quickly. I got popped there three years ago, and I know three other people that have gotten tickets there over the past five years. Other than that, it is an enjoyable drive. Have Fun. I am going to Hilton head for the week on Saturday.

As already stated 4 hours is about right. There really is no "quick" way to get there. McBee is terrible I think they plan the town budget around speeding tickets so be warned

Have fun!

The best i've made it was 3 hours and 45 minutes. Its about 4 hours any way you slice it.

Just stop for some boiled peanuts on the way and the trip will instantly be worth while

3 hrs--from Indian Trail (depending on where in Myrtle I guess) should get you there. My parents live in Murrells Inlet, just S of Myrtle and it's just under 3 hrs usually, depending on traffic.
I agree, watch out for McBee. Start on 74, to 601, then 151, then use google maps to figure out the rest depending on your end point. I like Google maps because if you don't like the route they give you then you can drag the route to where you want it to be.

We have started using Highway 74 and have used several different roads at the other end. If you go the traditional way, there is a highway 22 that really goes fast. You come to that right before you get to Conway. You end up right where Myrtle and North Myrtle connect. We go to a timeshare just about a mile from there.

We find Highway 74 to be so much more relaxing than trying to make all the connections on the right roads and missing the speed traps. Everybody gets a ticket when they travel through South Carolina. You could just go to Sunset Beach or Carolina Beach. You don't have to go out of North Carolina to go to those two places.

I've made it in 3.5 hours, best time. Usually its longer because of the train crossing or the traffic in Monroe.
