Hmm. . .I think that the NCGOP is pretty funny, being so self-righteous. The McCrory administration is under scrutiny by the feds.
If you don't remember Abscam, google Ozzie Myers. He made an oft-quoted statement concerning money & politics.
In the end, it doesnt matter about political affiliation. Corruption is corruption.
However, one can only assume that whatever party is the opposition party in such a situation would be viewing this as a golden opportunity to take back the Mayor's office.
Read the transcripts he made about going to dinner with the President. Wonder why he was requesting use of that luxury apartment? They got him hook, line, and sinker!

I agree, totally, Ani. I just think that it's funny that the state Republicans are jumping on this when McCrory & his administration are being investigated over the Duke ash ponds.

Well, one situation does not necessarily equate to the other, although I do understand what you mean.
Cannon took personal bribes.
Honestly, having been involved in politics - up close, and personal! - even well-meaning folks can find themselves in sketchy situations when it comes to currying favor. Takes a strong moral compass not to be dragged down into the muck.
I thought McCrory's response was measured and non-judgmental and I appreciated that. After all, he was Mayor of this city for a long time . . . and he would be expected (even if not Governor) to make a statement about the Mayor of Charlotte being hauled in by the FBI on corruption charges.
Not sure about the Duke situation. Just know I have worried about coal ash contamination for a long time. We have even discussed it on this forum in years past. If any official in this state had anything to do with mishandling that spill, then they should have to answer for it.
