Does anyone know where I can get a small propane tank for a grill refilled in the West Ashley area? I don't want to do an exchange where I trade my brand new, never used tank for who-knows-what.

I'm in Mt Pleasant and I usually bring mine to Harris Teeter. You could see if one over in the West Ashley area does the same.

The Tanks at the Exchange Places are tested on each Change out, to meet or exceed the standards for Tanks.

You don't get as much Propane when you do a change out at a exchange place, Most do 15-17 Gallons of propane in a 20 Gallon Tank, But there is the convenience of it.

You can go to a place that fills them up to 20/Gal, it may cost less, and you will get a little more propane per tank full, But it will take longer as someone on staff has to go out and do it, so could add 10/15 minutes to the fill ups. (Also you don't Pay at most for the propane that is left in the tank, most weigh it before and do a tare on it, then put in X gallons to fill it.)

I missed the part where you said you didn't want to do the exchange so disregard my post.

I take mine to the uhaul downtown (cheapest) or true value on James Island (convenience). It's about $17 to fill my empty take to full capacity.

Costco offers refills now, but if you're not a member, the campground at the corner of Hwy 17 and Main Rd. is your best bet.
