I'm visiting Charleston next week and I'm seeking the best seafood restaurant in the area. I want to know where the locals go for good fresh seafood. I'm not interested in an overpriced tourist place.

The Wreck in MtPleasant is the best... cash only and no reservations, google it

there are several other seafood places there on Shem Creek as well

Bowen's Island for oysters

Carrabba's in N.Chas near northwoods mall, excellent all kinds of food IMHO

Gilligans has gone severely downhill, I won't waste my time going there anymore...

and the absolute best, my kitchen but there isn't enough room for all the people that post on here... lol

I've spoiled my family with my seafood cooking, as have many native river rats... find a good church crab crack or the likes and you'll get the best seafood the south has to offer

good luck and enjoy your stay

I usually recommend three places: The Wreck, The Wreck, and The Wreck. It's funky and difficult to find, but once you do you'll be glad you made the effort. As meks said, it's cash only. Here's a link: http://www.wreckrc.com/

Sorry to hear that Gilligan's is not all its cracked up to be. They're building one in Pawleys Island now, I guess I'll wait for the reviews before I spend my money.

Default AW Shucks

The Wreck is excellent. And we've been to 2 Gilligans. The first one was Monck's Corner and we were very disappointed. The second time was the one in Summerville and we loved it. Hyman's Seafood in Charleston is very good, but there's almost always a long wait. AW Shucks, also in Charleston, was very good and the service was great.

Thumbs up Best Seafood Restaurant in Charleston

Vickery's in Mt. Pleasant had the best view of any restaurant in the Charleston area except possibly for the "Round Holiday Inn" and Vickery's definitely has the best staff for customer service as well as outstanding seafood.
I would highly recommend it.
