You can get all the bells and whistles with a Tracfone android. I have a Samsung Galaxy J3, but just use it for calls and texts.
I have a AO3s, is that similar?. Geeze, I can't stand it. I did have a LG smartphone but ended up having to factory reset it, then it died completely. It was a good little phone until the meltdown.
You check them by texting "611611" and entering "balance."
Minutes: 25,987

I believe that is about the maximum you can accumulate. Despite their claim of unlimited carryover of unused minutes, text, and data with active service. My numbers never go higher than just over 26,000.
I've used TING for several years. I know you've never heard of them but check them out.. They offer several plans. I use the cheapest one because I seldom use a phone and the base rate is $12/mo. My avg bill is $15/mo. Good customer service. And they sell phones too.
I put the Tracfone $20, 90 day, 60 minute on automatic billing for our 2 phones. i used to top up online and use bonus codes to get a few extra minutes, but it was getting to easy to forget. We have a surplus of accumulated minutes. i try to use wifi as much as I can so we don't use up the limited Tracfone data. We have triple minute phones. We use a landline at home which is also our DSL internet. TV & Cable internet are not here. My land line DSL provider offers fibre to some locations but also not here
I got a Tracfone for hubby, he hates cell phones, & won't use them, but I need him to have one if we are travelling separately etc. I signed up for a year, it cost in the region of $100 & I bought a cheap flip top phone online. It works fine. Thankfully I have not had to call customer service.
I have a Tracfone smart phone that does everything I need it to do for $17 per month: calls, texts, Microsoft authentication for work, games, driving directions, etc. Mostly I use my wifi for data.
Does anyone know of something equivalent to a Tracfone (i.e., pay as you go) that works internationally?
