Anybody heard about this on the news? As of 11:30 P.M. tonight June 12 (or last night actually), it was up to 20,500 acres, with several homes burned or burning. Right now, 10,000 people evacuated, 5,000 structures threatened. They even brought in Tanker 910, the DC-10 converted to carry 12,000 gallons of fire retardant, and the only wide bodied aircraft currently employed as an fire attack plane (though at least one 747 has been converted, I've not heard of it being employed). As a sign of the times, several YouTube videos have already been posted:

YouTube - Humboldt Fire Video

YouTube - DC-10 Air Attack Humboldt Fire Chico, CA Part 1

YouTube - DC-10 Fire Bomber Humboldt Fire - #2

YouTube - CDF Helicopters on Humboldt Fire, Chico, CA

YouTube - Helicopter firefighter Humboldt Fire Chico, CA

I don't live in the area, but a few hours south in the foothills near Sacramento. This really hits home as I've spent a some time in the Paradise area, and recognize some of the locations burning in these videos. My thoughts and prayers go out to those who've lost, or will lose, their homes to this fire.

Excellent website, I'll have to bookmark that one. Latest update on the humboldt fire:
20,500 acres, 15% containment
10,000 People Evacuated
50 Residences Destroyed
4,600 Residences Threatened
Several firefighters injured in burn-overs, but seem to be o.k.
1 Fatality (An elderly woman had a heart attack whilst being evacuated)

It's very sad indeed. Paradise is a beautiful little town, I have only been through once and enjoyed the trip. Hopefully there will be something for people to visit in the future...lots of history in that neck of the woods, and my heart goes out to those displaced by the fire.
