Not sure how many responses you'll receive on this as most of our posters live on the western side of the state and I live too far north but I did a google search for "transmission repair in Bakersfield," and came up with some names. Check out the reviews that customers posted. You may find one to call. I tend to rely on google reviews when choosing a new business and, so far, they haven't been wrong. Good luck

I'm sorry I haven't responded to this, JGC. I found a really fabulous transmission shop for my sister but she decided to go with what she considered as more trust-worthy, a car dealership.
Then she let me know that the high price they wanted for a new one was too much and she'd just try to trade it in at a used car lot in the back of a dealership or whatever.
Today, she told me that they're going to check out other transmission shops and I reminded her of the one I found for her. It's called All Automatic Transmission and their reviews on Yelp are awesome! In case others are interested, I hope CD will allow me to put a link here:

I hope it works out for your sister, MrsG. The mention of auto repair to me gives me shivers. Good that you're there for your sister and can be a support. The Bureau of Automotive Repair site is a good source to check the license of an auto business.
