Havent been to a .99 cent store in more than 20-25 years. Had no idea they sold produce. Sad they are closing, but who really goes there anyway?

I always kind of figured they sold stuff other stores couldn't sell.

Dollar tree is closer to me, so haven't been there in some time. Went last week to 99 (and up) store...they have fresh produce unlike dollar tree (got blueberries, driscolls brand strawberries, etc), Andersons pea soup, laundry soap, and some other miscellaneous stuff...they even have hummingbird feeders there. Bummer they are leaving...sign of the times though...

Maybe they should just change their name to "99 Dollar Store!"

I guess people will need to get dressed up & go to Walmart instead.

^^ LOL! There's an entire website dedicated to the stunning fashions of Walmart shoppers. No other store has this distinction.

The quote reminds me of a Tonya Harding interview once (the former Olympic figure skater with serious life problems) who said something like when she needs a day off from skating practice she likes to put on a pretty dress and go out to dinner at Applebee's.

Sad day indeed. I like the 99 Cent store. I think having the name 99 cents is hurt them as the years went by and the economy changed with more inflation. Lots of stuff in there, literally something for everyone, poor, middle class or rich.

Yeah they had a great variety of things, I got a really cute glass jug with juice glasses there too. I will definitely miss them.
