Did I say seven feet of snow? Make that 12 feet. That's what this storm has brought in (so far). There's still several hours of Sunday left and predictions are more snow will fall. I-80 is closed from Colfax to the Nevada line so no getting through there. I haven't checked but I'd bet all roads leading from CA to NV are closed right now. That doesn't stop some from thinking they'll get through. smh Over 300 cars are stranded and the CHP has to tell people to stay home and don't try and travel through this. As if anyone would need to tell people to do this? But they do. Every time. Oh the plight of the truly ignorant.

It sounds brutal. 114 mph winds around Mammoth Mountain? I read that the Mammoth Film Festival wasn't cancelled, so that added to the bad road conditions this weekend. You're right; people really need to realize they try to outsmart Mother Nature.

114 mph winds and they didn't cancel the festival? I'll think of something to say after I stop laughing. People are so stupid sometimes.

Einstein had something to say about that: “Two things are infinite: the universe, and human stupidity … and I’m not so sure about the universe”

Meanwhile, I believe the storm’s strongest wind gust has been recorded at 190 mph

Saw some You Tube night time video near Donner Pass. Semi trucks at a complete standstill with a few passenger cars and pickups moving slowly in between them.

I knew that (from the article). My use of 114 mph was in response to CA4Now's comment.

Waiting for reports of cannibalism at Donner.

Wasn’t correcting you … just providing an update as I didn’t read the linked article. Saw it on news elsewhere at 190mph. Yipes!

I knew it also, but didn't post a link to the article, since I expected to read the "oh, so dramatic," or "the media is overblowing this" comments that are then inevitably posted on these weather threads.

This wasn't a storm, but the Santa Ana winds today were up to 80 MPH in some areas of southern California. Up in Yosemite, there were apparently wind gusts up to 95 MPH early this morning.

All that rain we had caused a lot of uprooted trees, unfortunately.
