I heard on ABS 33/40 that a new outlet mall will be built in Leeds between Barber Motorsports and Bass Pro Shop. There are about 35 possible retailers, such as Banana Republic and Gap, who are predicted to come. It will be completed for the 2010 shopping season.

Developers line up retailers for $127 million Leeds outlet mall

This is a rendering of The Shops of Grand River, a planned $127 million outlet mall in Leeds. (Special to The Birmingham News)

Daniel Corp. and two partners are ready to build a $127 million outlet mall in Leeds that's meant to rival upscale centers in vacation destinations, and they already have lined up nearly three dozen retailers for the center. The team plans to open the mall in time for the holiday shopping season of 2010, moving ahead with the project at a time when other developers are retrenching. Its design and layout are similar to outlet centers in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., and Destin, Fla.

OK. What happened to the Saks Off 5th Avenue? Is it still in the plans?

I don't think so. I was out there two weeks ago and picked up the handout/map. I tossed it, but I don't recall seeing anything about a Saks off Fifth. The only thing that was confirmed, assigned a space and "coming soon" was a Coach outlet -- spring of 2011.
