I am a 26 year old woman relocating to Baton Rouge. I am far past the college scene, but enjoy keeping an active social life. Thus, I didn't want to live in a Baton Rouge suburb. I'd really be interested in hearing which area of Baton Rouge is best to live in to be near nice bars, restaurants, etc. I don't want a loud area that's near the college activities, but I do not want a quiet area either.

Essentially, I am young (fairly-so) and single. I have lived in Louisiana before (not Baton Rouge) and if it's in the wrong area it can feel like the only single person in a world of couples. The only other alternative I have seen on my own is to mix in with the college kids and I would rather avoid that as well. So where do the young professionals without a family tend to live? Is there an area (perhaps equivalent to The Heights or Museum District in Houston?).

Also, not necessarily an apartment-- can be loft, condo, etc.

Thanks for all your help.

Downtown is becoming a more liveable neighborhood with more residential. It's not loud unless you live right on 3rd St.
Mid-City is becoming more hip along Government St and includes areas like Capital Heights, Mid-City South, and the Garden District. Spanish Towne is a cool area but very old so many of it's residents have been established there for quite some time but it is beginning to change.
That general area has the best bars and restaurants and is busy with people our age. I would search Craigslist or Trulia as far as rentals.

Where in Louisiana did you live?

Hmm, bumping this thread. I kind of have the same question as a 28 year old single woman, who may be moving to BR in a few months.

Much of the same applies. What's your criteria?
