Hey guys, we are a young family new to Baton Rouge. I know very little about this city, so I'd really appreciated if you guys can give me some suggestioins on how to find an aparment like this:

A 2 bedroom apartment in a safe, clean neighborhood within a budget of $800-1100/month
Not too far from Sherwood Forest Blvd. & Coursey Blvd., since my husband works there.
We need apartments with good construction, cuz our 3 year-old runs a lot at home.
Fitness center, pool and palyground are preferred, but not a must.
Would be better if the neiborhood are resided by young/middle-aged families or professionals.

Currently, I am thinking about vicinities around mall of Louisiana, because I am an urban creature who likes shopping malls and restaurants. Do you guys know of any suitable apartment in that area? Or will you recommend me some complexes in other areas? Thank you in advance!

Well if you like urban settings then that area isn't best. While it's nice, it's suburban in nature. You might like the Jefferson Rd area. Close to both Sherwood/Coursey and the Mall of Louisiana, as well as I-12, I-10, and Towne Center.

For that range I would choose the apartments at the intersection of Perkins and Bluebonnet (but the name escapes me right now, Park On Bluebonnet I think is the name. Quiet, safe, new and across the street from Perkins Rowe and 30 seconds from mall of la.

Another is Turnberry apartments on Linkwood Court, on Bluebonnet and close to PR and the mall.

I have a friend who lives at Turnberry. The pricing is right but I understand the mgmt isn't so good. She went a few days without A/C last month - the mgmt was very slow to respond. Another friend lived in Park at Bluebonnet and also complained about poor mgmt. I'd recommend looking along Jefferson Highway in the Bluebonnet/Essen/Corporate area. It's safe, nice, convenient and there's a good selection in your price range.

That doesn't sound like Park @ Bluebonnet at all.

Hey guys, what about Bluebonnet Ridge? I went to see it today and found it quite peaceful and nice. I drove along Jefferson Highway today, and I don't like it very much.
I also visited Turnberry, the kitchen is rather small and I really think it's over-priced.

Can't remember if BB Ridge are the ones closer to Bluebonnet rd or closer to the nature reserve. Either way that's a very quiet part of Bluebonnet and I think they are individually owned (no lease office). Never been in them before nor known anyone that's lived there before.

Edit: nevermind. BB Ridge is across the street from where I was talking about. I've been in those, older but they are ok and a decent price range. I would be careful though because there is a LSU student families complex right next door. Some of those families can be a little ghetto for that part of bluebonnet.

Oh, thank you trafficsucks. You really gave me a lot of insights.
Actually BB Ridge has a leasing office and the lady there is nice. I'll go ask her about the neiborhood thing next Monday. One of the good thing of BB Ridge is that it's close to the library and major shopping areas yet it's still quiet and peaceful.
But I have a question, why LSU students can be ghetto? I mean since they go to college, they can't be too bad...right?

Those apartments, right next to BB Ridge, are for students and their families only. Drive thru there during the work day and theres too many adults hanging out on porches and a lot of kids for my tastes. I'm not saying it's bad but it's not my type of neighborhood.

While you're at the leasing office look across the street for North Oak Hills pkwy for a bank (I think it's a Hancock Bank) and behind it you'll see 3 privately owned complexes. Usually there are a few with for rent signs. Just a back up in case.
