The main problem with the Rockies, and this has been true since the day the franchise was established, is that you can never really judge how good (or how bad) they are, since all of their statistics playing at home, at the altitude where Denver is situated, are skewed. They are not now, and have never been, the same team on the road as they are at home.
I sat up at home and watched that 14-inning game last night against the SF Giants, which COLO won 6-4 on a grand slam in the bottom of the 14th inning.
In the bottom of the 14th inning, when the score was 4-2 Giants, and the Rockies had the bases loaded, I turned to the wife and said "This is legendary baseball. No matter what happens, this is legendary baseball."
The Rockies would not give up. They had chances in several late innings to score the winning run, had runners get to third with no outs or one out, etc, but failed to close out the Giants. So the game went into extra innings. In the top of the 14th inning, the SF Giants scored THREE runs, usually a back breaker...
In the bottom of the 14th inning, the Rockies got a run back, making it 4-2 Giants. Then the Rockies got the bases loaded. That when I turned to the wife and made that remark. Then Ryan Spilborghs hit a grand slam. Legendary baseball.

The Rockies didn't get a run back, making it 4-2...it was handed to them. Giants relievers, mostly Justin Miller, walked 3 batters, one of them the pitcher who had orders not to lift his bat off his shoulder...just disgraceful
So thanks to 1 lousy hit and 3 walks, the Rockies were in position to win when Spilborghs, who shouldn't have even had the opportunity to come to bat, hit the HR.
All Giants fans know that the Rockies didn't actually win that game...it was given to them. Which is far from legendary baseball.

I am a Giants fan, but I see no need to be a scapegrace about the Colorado win last night. The Rockies took advantage of a collapse in Giant pitcher control, that is one of the things you do when trying to win a ballgame. They could have swung and missed at those pitches, as Molina would probably have done since he views a walk as some sort of emasculating event.
It's the pitcher's job to get the ball over the plate and get strikes and outs. If you write that the Rockies shouldn't have had the opportunity to hit the slam, you are also writing of the Giants failure to prevent that situation.
It's everything both teams do over the entire ballgame which determines the outcome, not just the actions of one of the teams in one of the innings.
