So.. Seeing as this happened 4 years before I was born.. I had never heard of this.
I'm sure many of us remember the 1999 "All Century Team" which was probably one of the last appearances of Ted Williams before he passed away. And it being notable for being the first time Pete Rose was invited back by MLB.. And of course the ambush interview that Jim Gray did.. Which.. I still maintain, while his questioning was fair.. It was the complete wrong time and place to do it and I hate Jim Gray for that to this day. As a fan, seeing that.. It is what I remember the most about that celebration, which.. Sucks.
But I had never heard of the MLB Centennial teams. They picked two teams.. Greatest All Time and Greatest Living Players
You can read an article by Marty Appel about it here
National Pastime Museum: Baseball’s Centennial “Greatest Players Ever” Poll – Marty Appel
I think Appel makes the points (and more) that I would in his article, so.. I'll leave it to his words.
