The Mets lead the Braves by 1.5 in the East with a magic number of 11 and the Phillies elimination number of 1 in the division.
The Cards now have a magic number of 5 to clinch the Central.
Yankees have a magic number of 6 in the East over Toronto, Tampa has an elimination number of 7, and Baltimore has an elimination number of 1.
And Cleveland now leads the AL Central by a commanding 6 games with a magic number of 3, and the Twins elimination number now at 3.
In the NL Wildcard it's still the Braves with a commanding 10.5 game lead for the 4 spot, and the Padres a half game up on the Phillies; Brewers have an elimination number of 11, and the Giants elimination number is 0, everyone else in the NL has been eliminated from the playoffs.
In the AL Wildcard, Toronto leads Tampa by a game for the 4 spot, and the Mariners are a half game behind the Rays. Orioles have an elimination number of 10, White Sox 7 in the Wildcard, and the Twins and Red Sox both have an elimination number of 4.

In series for this weekend; the Mets play 3 games in Oakland, the Padres play 3 games in Denver, the Jays and Rays continue a 4 game series in Tampa after the Rays won the opener Thursday, the Mariners are in KC for their last 3 road games of the year looking to recover after losing 6 of their last 9 games, the Cards are in LA for 3 games against the Dodgers, the Giants are in Arizona for 3 games, the D'Backs final 3 home games of the season, the Braves continue a 4 game series in Philly after losing 1-0 on Thursday, the Orioles continue a 4 game home series against HOuston after winning the opener Thursday, Boston is in the Bronx for 4 games after getting walked off in the opener Thursday night, the White Sox host Detroit for 3 games, the Brewers are in Cincinnati for 4 games after Kolten Wong with 3 home runs and 5 RBI's powered them to a series-opening win on Thursday, Cleveland is in Texas for 3 games their final 3 road games of the season, and the Angels are in Minnesota for 3 games. I will try to update this nightly, but at worst a couple times during the week
They always seem to run out of gas late in the season.

In the AL east, the Yankees lead the way 5.5 up on the Jays, 6.5 up on Tampa, and 12 up on Baltimore, and Boston is eliminated from the division race. Yankees have a magic number of 11 for the division.
In the AL Central its shaping up as now a 2 horse race between Cleveland and the White Sox as the Twins have fallen to 7 games back, and Royals and Tigers are eliminated from the division.
In the West, the Astros have officially won the division.
In the NL West, the Dodgers have locked that division up.
The Cardinals are 8.5 up on the Brewers with a magic number of 7 to clinch the division.
And in the NL East, the Braves are a game back of the Mets, so this is the tightest divisional race still on going.

Over in the NL Wildcard, everyone with the exception of the Diamondbacks (elimination number of 4), Giants (tragic number of 6), and the Brewers (tragic number of 14) have been officially eliminated from the postseason. The Braves hold a commanding 11.5 game lead for the 4 spot, while the Padres are a half game up on the Phillies for 5th.
It's not that much tighter in the AL Wildcard; Boston (tragic number of 7), Minnesota (tragic number of 8 in the Wildcard, 9 in the division), White Sox (tragic number of 11), and Orioles (tragic number of 12) are still breathing but barely, as the Orioles are the closest non-playoff team, and they still sit 5 games back of the Mariners. The Blue Jays, Rays, and Mariners are all within 2 games of each other for the 4 through 6 seeds, with the 4 seed generating the home series in the Wildcard round.

For series this week, we have the A's hosting the Mariners for 3 games starting tonight, the Padres hosting the Cardinals for 3 games starting tonight, the Blue Jays in Philadelphia for a 2 game series, The Twins starting a 3 game series in Kansas City, the Braves hosting the Nationals for 2 games after winning the series opener on Monday, the Dodgers hosting the Diamondbacks for 5 games which started on Monday which includes a Tuesday double header, the Orioles hosting the Tigers after losing game 1 Monday, Boston in Cincinnati for 2 games, the White Sox hosting Cleveland for 3 games starting Tuesday, San Fran finishing a series in Colorado which started with a Giants win Monday, the Astros continuing a series against Tampa after winning Monday's opener, the Brewers finishing a series against the Mets after losing Monday night, and the Yankees hosting the Pirates for 2 games.
That AL Central horse race didn’t last long.

Mets won 2 of 3 in Oakland, the Padres won 2 of 3 in Denver, the Rays & Jays split 4 games at the Trop, Mariners lost 2 of 3 in KC, Cards lost 2 of 3 in LA, but Albert Pujols hit home run # 700, Giants won 2 games in Arizona, Braves & Phillies split 4 games in the city of brotherly love, Astros & Orioles split 4 games about 45 miles down 95 from Philly in Baltimore, Yankees swept 4 games from Boston, Detroit swept 3 games on the South side, Brewers won 3 of 4 in Cincinnati, Cleveland won all 3 games in Texas, Angels won 2 of 3 in Minneapolis.
In the AL east, the Rays & Orioles have been eliminated from the race since the last update, and the only team left standing between the Yankees & a division title are the Jays, and with a magic number of 2, this division can be won as early as Monday.
With the White Sox & Twins collapse combined with the Guardians run (17 wins in last 20 games), this division is now officially over as the Guardians have officially locked up the division.
Cardinals have a magic number of 3 in the Central; this division can be locked up as early as Wednesday evening if the Cards sweep 2 games in Milwaukee.
Phillies have been eliminated from the NL east race, Mets have a magic number of 8 over the Braves.

In the Wildcard, Brewers are 1.5 games back of the Phillies, while the Giants elimination number is 2, Brewers is 9, everyone else but the Padres are eliminated.
In the AL Wildcard, Boston has been eliminated since the last update, the Twins have an elimination number of 1, White Sox of 3, and Orioles of 7, but despite Seattle's 3-7 record in last 10 (4-8 in last 12) they still lead the Orioles by 4 games for the last spot.

In the home field race; the Astros have a magic number of 4 over the Yankees for home field in the AL, while the Yankees have a magic number of 2 for the second bye. In the NL; the Dodgers have officially locked up home field throughout the NLCS, while they have a magic number of 4 over Houston for home field throughout the NL, and the Mets have a magic number of 1 for the second bye (Braves have a magic number of 3).

Nobody plays 4 games this week, only 2 or 3 games series. Braves play 3 in Washington starting Monday, Baltimore plays 3 in Boston starting Monday, and the Yankees play 3 in Toronto starting Monday. Every other series of note starts on Tuesday, so I'll update those on Monday afternoon.

In series that start on Tuesday: the Mets host the Marlins for 2 games, the Cardinals are in Milwaukee for 2 games, Astros host the D'Backs for 2 games, Phillies are in Chicago for 3 games, two disappointing teams meet up in Minneapolis as the Twins host the White Sox, Cleveland hosts Tampa for 3 games, Colorado is in San Fran for 3 games, Dodgers are in San Diego for 3 games, and the Mariners host the Rangers for 3 games.

And now they're almost in for sure, and somehow they just crept into the second wildcard spot. I hope they don't keep it. They've played well against both Cleveland and Toronto this season, but the winner of the Cleveland series goes on to play the Yankees, while the 1/2 wildcard winner goes on to play Houston.
As a Mariners' fan, I'd much rather have them play the Yankees.

It helps because in the AL (and really the NL), the rest of the teams stink. In each league, there's only 7 teams with winning records....Baltimore is going to be the lone AL team that misses the playoff with a winning record, but they are sliding back towards .500, while in the NL, the Giants are now a game under .500, and the only other above .500 teams are the Brewers & Phillies, 1 of them will get the Wildcard, the other will miss the postseason.

And so far this year, the race for the playoffs has basically been over for about a week and a half already which is why I haven't updated this thread. IF they kept the WC at 5 teams it'd be another story because in the AL you'd have Seattle and Tampa within a half game with 6 games to play, now THAT'S exciting, and in the NL you'd have the Padres, Phillies & Brewers all within 3 games with a potential for a tiebreaker game which is also exciting. I guess the only thing worth watching now is the race for the #6 seed between the Phillies & Brewers; Phillies are a half game in front, and own the tiebreaker; Phillies have 7 games left because of a double header while the Brewers have 6.

If I were SEA, rather have HOU in a short 5 game series then NYY in a longer 7 game series after.
HOU can be had. They compiled wins in a terrible division.

The counter-point to that is I think Seattle has a much better chance to beat Cleveland than Toronto in the Wildcard round. And if you get out of the Wildcard round, you guarantee yourself at least 1 home game in the DS, and I don't care whether that's versus the Yankees or Astros, Seattle would be buzzing the whole time leading up to it, and that would be exciting for baseball.

My fearless Prediction:

On every date the Yankees play, the Yankee game will be scheduled for Prime Time Eastern, no matter what time it is in the venue's time zone. All other games will be TBA, fitted into the lesser times. Even if all games are all played in terrible October sun-fields, the Prime Time Yankees always cone first.

Philly's best hope.. Win the #6 seed.. Check.

That gets them against the Cards.. Check

They're 4-3 against the cards this year.. So, they have a chance here... Hire a squirrel-wrangler to clear out every squirrel within a 10 mile radius of Busch stadium.. They beat the Cards.

That.. Puts them up against the Braves.. That's.. Tough. But, they're.. Not HORRID against the Braves. 8-11 on the season.

Hopefully, either the Padres shock the Mets AND Dodgers.. Or the Dodgers make it through.. Because Philly is 4-3 against both of them. If the Mets make it.. That's not good. 5-14. The Mets are probably the team that they really don't have a prayer against.

Honestly.. I think the Phillies have a chance to make it to the Divisional.. But it'll be a hard road past that. Pitching and hitting.. Is very sporadic.

You never know if Nola is going to pitch a 5 hit complete game with 11 strikeouts.. Or be knocked out in the 4th after giving up 8 runs and 10 hits.
