God this bullpen is pathetic. Can't lock down a lead to save their lives (or eventually one hopes, their jobs).
MADDON: "Okay, it's the bottom of the 8th, there's 2 on, 1 out, we have a one run lead.... I know, let's put in Strop!"
CUBS FANS EVERYWHERE: "NOOOOOoooooooooooooo....."
ETA: God dammit, that's 3 blown late-inning leads in 2 games, against a team nipping at their heels for the division lead. So much for our shiny new lockdown closer.
You'll get no argument from me regarding their relief pitching. As soon as they brought in Strop I knew we lost that game.
But a bigger problem is that they really suck on the road. And they need to get back to playing small ball. They rely too much on homeruns to win games.
I'm surprised too ,it's one of the oldest pro sports teams in america, in 2018 they had over 3.1M in attendance, when they won the WS it made international news.Wrigley field is an historic ballpark,Id say they are second only to the yankees for name recognition, they even got mentioned a few times in the simpsons and even the bartman incident was parodied in a family guy episode. And when Ferris Bueller had his day off he didn't go to see the sox play did he??
Wow, Cubs didn't even let Maddon finish out the season and exit quietly. Fired him before the start of the game today. Dude must have lit some bridges.
ETA: Didn't see the convivial joint press conference with Maddon and Epstein. Still, it seems a little weird to not at least wait until the end of the game to make the announcement.

To be fair, Ferris was a northsider so it was a foregone conclusion he'd choose Wrigley. Plus every Cubs home game was a day game back then so it was the logical stadium to go to if you're skipping school. I don't know if it still is, but back in my day a Cubs game was a popular "senior skip day" destination.
Morel with 9 homers in his only 12 games this year!
Wild how they had him start the season in the minors too!
