My last Douglas tires lasted ten years, so I thought "how bad could they be"?

Do yourself a favor and visit TireRack - huge amount of choices with reviews and they will ship to a shop nearby..and you will have the total cost in advance..and other posters are correct, cheap tires are not worth your wellbeing..

Read some reviews; it's indeed made by Goodyear and not a bad tire at all. I'm betting on the techs mounting them wrong (again, they didn't inspire confidence) and/or the mismatch between front and back being the problem. Would it be reasonable for me to have a reputable shop check and balance them, if necessary, before proceeding? If that solves the problem, I can order and buy the other two through WM and have the shop mount them, as well. The Black Friday sale is coming up!

I bought coopers and the ride noise and quality improved immensely over the garbage tires the dealership put on there.

Didn't WM give you some sort of "guarantee" with these tires? If so wouldn't it be valid at another WM store, one closer to where you live? Have the store that's local to you, check to see if the lugs are tight, or if they were balanced properly.

(You did mention, in your OP, that you were "out of town", when your initial problem occurred, correct?)

10 year old tires are a hazard, regardless of how much tread they have.

Agree. High likelihood one or both of these is the problem.

But since walmart buys strictly on price, these tires may have been "blems."

OP~ go to CostCo and get some Michelins on your car.

I'm aware of that...which is why I'm buying new ones. Regardless of tread, they can develop dry rot. Mine isn't too bad, I'm told, but it was time.
