Family of 4 here plus occasionally have parents or in-laws visiting and thinking of getting a minivan or cross over SUV.

Some Q:

1. Given that I have a budget of $12-$15K - would getting an older minivan make sense or should I pony up a little more and get slightly new(still used).
2. In my budget range, I can find 2011 or older Toyota Sienna or Honda Odyssey . does it make sense to buy again, slightly newer(2014+ or higher models) or 2011 or older make good sense.

I plan to keep the whatever I buy for at-least 10 year.

Am not mechanically inclined, so will be using dealer or local mechanic for repairs.

How much should I expect on maintenance cost for minivans vs SUVs?

Get: Lowest mileage, best records, as old as 10 yrs....FROM original Owner!!!!! Ez to find on nationwide adhuntr.

(Just bought a 2006 t&c with stow seats, <60k miles / $4k.). It will last to 200k. )

Use a local mech for oil and maint.
Add blistien shocks, (better for load a tire wear)

Minivan is very cheap to keep alive, insure / replace. Very comfortable for long trips. Quite safe. One synthetic oil change / yr (second vehicle). Plugs and wires every 100k, belts and hoses every 10 yrs.

the two listed will make a good choice. Any kinks should be Ironed out after a few years.

With a used model, you can find one with the great options like sunroofs, heated seats, navigation, and satellite radio. go for leather and special seating configurations.

I like the sienna a little more because of the toyota previa history. the sienna with awd , reclining seats, leather sunroof and options , and that resale value is a clear winner. the looks are pretty sharp as well.
