cd player is toast, I already pulled the unit out. this the first time I'm doing this, so have some questions before I go out and buy a new and install it.

some units i saw on the web, they only have the wires, no connectors, so do i just cut the the connector from the old unit and crimp them to the new wires by color matching? is this the way to go ? thx

ps, connector has 7 wires on top row and another 7 on bottom row. why a cd player need so many wires? are some of these for something else other than the the player?

attached are pics of the old unit connector.

You can get adapters or look at crutchfield for guidance on what you need.

I'm a bit analretentive about this process, I do *not* like to modify OEM stuff. It's just harder to fix, more expensive if you ever needed to replace and outright unobtainable in some cases. The aftermarket audio market has a perfect fix for this, Metra harnesses.

https://www.crutchfield.com/p_120707...s.html?tp=2977

Not entirely sure if this is the right one for you, but you can go through the Crutchfield "what fits my car" guide yourself.

Anyway, this allows you to tie together the loose ends of a cheap harness and you new head unit and then simply plug it into the OEM harness (crimp connectors, do not solder unless you like troubleshooting wire failures) . Do it carefully and you can get 3~4 uses out of the Metra harness (I don't frequently change my HU's, but they do die and sometimes I'd like to keep one so when selling a vehicle I'll put in something different).

As for the wires, they are all sorts of things.. power and ground, 2 for each speaker (so at least 8), sometimes a pair for sub, radio antenna, dimmer control, steering wheel controls, etc.... You'll want to find the radio pin-out for your vehicle (I think the Metra harness comes with that info printed on wires) so you can match up like with like when replacing.

It's easy stuff, but the details matter.

Yeah don't butcher your wiring. Get the plug in adapter that fits your vehicle. Super easy.

went to bestbuy, interested in a JVC cd player, $70, the guy told me I need to also buy some metra harness, $16, and a PAC locpro 4-channel converter, $49, because my pathfinder has the bose system.

since everything add up to $150, is there something that might cost the same but doesnt require all the mumbo jumbo ? why is a converter needed?

can i do w/o the converter?

Did you try going to crutch fields, entering your vehicle specifics and see if tell you you must have all those items? See what their options are they are great to work with and know what you may or may not need.
