Has anyone been out there lately? I thought it might be a good place to take my two Labs swimming, at least in the shallow parts away from duckweed, but I haven't been to City Park in years and don't know what it's like now. Formally known as Emma Long Park, I believe.

Actually, it used to be City Park and now it's Emma Long Park. I found this link on the City of Austin parks and unfortunately, it says:

Pets must be on a leash at all times and are not allowed in the designated swimming area.

City of Austin - Austin Parks and Recreation Department: Emma Long Metropolitan Park

What about Red Bud Isle? There's an off leash area for the doggies.

Thanks for the links... Red Bud Isle will be first choice when they're able to be leash-free. They're 3 years old, but we've only had them a month. They started out in the pound for their first year, then two owners whose situations changed and couldn't care for them, and then were taken to a rescue farm. We're still new to them, so I'm going to wait until I'm more confident about how they'll do off a leash in public and around other unleashed dogs. Our swimming at City Park was going to be limited to leashed and walking or paddling around along the shore outside the roped-off swimming area. My primary goal is to get them used to the water, since they're accustomed to a cooler climate and I'd like to get them a plastic pool to stand the heat of a Texas summer.
But, I'm wondering if City Park is still a reasonably calm and safe place to be.

I'm hoping Red Bud Isle will be a fun place for them (and us) soon. Just not quite ready for our debut.
