Austin, hands down, is a friendly metro......however, it is large, the city itself is the 16th largest in the US, and it's very cosmopolitan as well.....considering all the suburban growth, and city gentrification-much has changed......

That being said, some parts of the Austin metro are more friendly than others...most assuredly, it is not UNIFORMLY friendly......so, which areas of the Austin metro do you find MOST friendly, and which do you find LESS friendly?..

I never saw anyone break that down on here, and would really like to see where CD folks think the"friendly" geography of Austin lies......

Friendliest - The bars and clubs

Unfriendliest - I-35, 183, 290 during rush hour.

Subjective question really. Those that are happy with their neighborhoods will sing the praises to high heaven, those that aren't....Well the depths of hell I suppose.

If you want lat/long info on particular areas that are friendly/unfriendly, Google Maps will be out with that info shortly...

Friendliest -- Massage parlors in North Austin
Least Friendly -- IRS or maybe Travis CAD offices

There are no unfriendly areas of Austin. Except maybe far West Austin with old money rich people, if you're driving the wrong car or you are somewhere they don't think you belong. I would say though that even rich people are for the most part friendly... just a few pockets of snobs. NOTHING like Dallas or Houston rich people rudeness, though.

How have these 'old money rich people' been rude to you? What's the 'wrong car'? Pockets of snobs? Issues!

Friendly--people who drive big gas guzzling SUV's and pickups!!

Unfriendly--the few, the proud who actually drive a car!
(driving a car will eventually have you shunded from the Austin area, socially and physically)

Friendly and unfriendly people do not group themselves together or live in specific geographic areas. This thread was created to incite arguments between Austinites that live in different areas.

Yeah, I have yet to fall into an unfriendly 'pocket' (maybe at Memorial stadium after a losing football game?), or a ballistically friendly one (with the exceptio of Eeyore's, maybe?).

Austin's friendliness never ceases to surprise me. People are very very nice all throughout the city. I hope that those who move here are willing to participate and enhance this friendliness
