When you let them loose in your yard do they bother your vegetable garden?

Thanks for the best breed type...I need one that's quiet!!! Do they get along with dogs? No way could I eat them...but eggs, yes!
Ummm. Heat source at least 6 months out of the year? Who told you that? Nope, they don't, not once they're grown. The chicks need a heat source for a few weeks, but then they're just fine as long as they have other chickens to sit snuggled up next to. They sit on their feet when it's cold and they're just fine.

As for dogs, it depends on whether you can teach your dog that they're off limits. Some dogs can learn that, others can't.

I have no heat source for mine. We don't get cold enough, long enough here to need it.
I just close the windows to their coop a bit. You still need some circulation. The girls just huddle up on their perch together as THL notes.

Once the chicks feather out they are fine on their own.

The chicken coop people told me that, but I like your opinion better, THL!!!
My dog would grow to love them, I'm sure.

So is there a limit on how many chickens one can have within the city limits?

I have a friend who lives off of East William Cannon near Pleasant Valley Rd and a neighbor of hers raises *****. They cockle doodle doo all day long and are used in illegal gambling rings. I told her she should report them b/c of the noise violations as a back door way of getting rid of them for the other, more serious but hard-to-prove, legal issue but so far she is reluctant...........
